Paying people not to deforest

In the US we have the Conservation Reserve Program, which supports protecting fragile lands by "Paying farmers not to farm" on certain portions of their land. India has come up with a twist on that: to prevent the destruction of forests, the central government now allocates funds to its states based on how good a job they do of protecting the forests.
