in Time magazine fertilizer has the biggest carbon footprint of the whole orange juice production process: more than harvesting, processing, packing, or shipping orange juice. Also, 80% of US fertilizer is imported! It seems crazy that Florida orange growers find it cheaper to import stuff than to use, for example, some good ol' domestic chicken poop. I wonder how the economics of all that work.
